Attic Insulation Removal

We remove old, contaminated, and damaged insulation from Phoenix Metro attics, clean the space, and get it ready for new insulation that actually keeps the summer heat out.

When Insulation Needs to Come Out

Adding more insulation on top of a bad layer just buries the problem. Removal is usually the right call when you see any of these:

  • Rodent or pest contamination. Droppings, urine, nesting material, and tunnels in the insulation, often with a lingering odor in the house.
  • Water damage. Monsoon roof leaks or a failed AC condensate line leave insulation matted, stained, and prone to mold.
  • Compressed or settled insulation. Old blown-in or batt insulation that has flattened over the years no longer delivers its rated R-value, which shows up as hot rooms and high cooling bills.
  • Smoke or fire residue. Insulation that has absorbed smoke keeps releasing odor until it's removed.
  • Before a spray foam upgrade. Spray foam at the roof deck or on the attic floor needs a clean surface, so the old material has to go first.

How the Removal Works

  1. Inspection. We check the attic, identify what type of insulation is up there, look for contamination and moisture, and give you a written quote.
  2. Protection and containment. We cover the path from the entry to the attic hatch and seal off the work area so dust stays out of your living space.
  3. HEPA vacuum removal. A high-powered insulation vacuum pulls the material from the attic through a hose straight into collection bags outside the home.
  4. Cleanup. Once the insulation is out, we clear remaining debris and droppings and, where needed, sanitize and deodorize the attic.
  5. Disposal. Removed material is bagged and hauled away for proper disposal.
  6. Air sealing and re-insulation. With the attic floor exposed, it's the best time to seal gaps around wiring, plumbing, and light fixtures before installing new blown-in, batt, or spray foam insulation.

Vermiculite needs testing first. Loose, pebble-like gray-brown or gold insulation may be vermiculite, which can contain asbestos. If we find it, we stop and recommend testing by a qualified lab before any removal work is done.

How Long It Takes

Most single-family attics take one to two days from setup to cleanup. Larger homes, heavy contamination, or tight attic access can add time; we'll tell you what to expect when we quote the job.

After Removal: Re-Insulating for Arizona Heat

Phoenix attics regularly get far hotter than the outdoor air in summer. A clean, air-sealed attic with the right amount of new insulation helps your AC keep up and cuts the heat radiating into the rooms below. We'll walk you through blown-in, batt, and spray foam options and what each costs for your home.
